Research suggests long-term weight loss management can only be achieved through increase muscle mass through strength training, combined with some cardio. Cardio exercises should be performed at a heart rate no higher than 60% of maximum for at least 20 minutes. This will help to hit the calorie deficit needed to lose weight, without breaking down muscle for energy. However, you will burn more calories in a single session if you combine strength training and cardio; you can get the best of both worlds: fat loss and muscle gain, leading to lean body mass. Best results are achieved combining this winning combination with a healthy eating plan— high protein, low-carbohydrate, low-GI, high fibre (see our blog posts on Complex versus Simple or Processed Carbohydrates).
While a cardio workout will help you burn more calories during a training section, strength training enables you to keep burning those calories throughout the day. This is because it increases your resting metabolic rate—muscle burns more calories at rest than fat does.
Experts recommend thirty minutes of low-impact strength training with full-body emphasis three times per week. Slender Solutions offers such training classes.
The classes will be held every Tuesday and Thursday at 5 pm, as well as Mondays and Fridays at 12h00 in the Pilates centre in our rooms. Don’t forget your water bottle!!!
